Do I really need it?
If you're 18 through 24 and applying for your first Texas license, Texas DPS requires a six-hour adult driver education course. At 25 and older, Texas has no driver education requirement. New residents 18 or older who surrender a valid, unexpired out-of-state license have the requirement waived. Use the checker above for your situation.
Does this replace the driving test or the ITD program?
No. You still take the driving test, and DPS still requires its free Impact Texas Drivers (ITD) certificate before your driving test. This course covers the six-hour adult driver education requirement.
